Former Downtown Bar Sets Stage For Adaptive Reuse Project

“I wanted a house that served as a community gathering place,” says homeowner Dr. Mike Ervin.  What better place to start than a local watering hole, the Southern Bell Bar?  Dr. Ervin had something more sophisticated in mind, like a fundraiser for the Dayton Visual Arts Center, but the former bar located on a high-profile corner in the Oregon District offered several elements that the Ervins were looking for in their home. Although the Southern Bell Bar was in a state of disrepair, Mike liked the openness of the space.  “I just pictured what it would look like, as nasty as it was,” he says of his first trip to see the property.  “Everybody said I was crazy.”
